What subjects and levels are taught at the SD?

  • GCSE Mathematics Higher tier.
  • GCSE Sciences (Biology/Chemistry/Physics) Higher tier.
  • A Level years 12 & 13 Pure mathematics and Mechanics.
  • We offer virtual group classroom tuition, and 1-to-1 online tuition.

Do you cover all examining boards like AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR?

All examining boards cover the same curriculum and subject matter, with only small differences, for example, knowing a process by name and order for Edexcel science, but only by order for AQA. The SD is a virtual specialized classroom, which deals with subject matter understanding and this can be applied to all the examining boards. However, it is still recommended that a student reads through their text book in parallel to the virtual lessons to ensure they’ve covered everything.

I do foundation, can I still attend? Will it benefit me?

You will still benefit from lessons, especially understanding the core concepts. The Higher tier elements are few, but they will be incorporated in the lessons. This can be particularly beneficial if you are aiming to move up classroom sets at school to do the Higher exam.

Why are there only 6 slots available per hour?

Out of experience as a teacher, I’ve found that students learn more as there is more room for interaction between students and teacher where the important questions can be answered. Simply, smaller classrooms are more focused while allowing room for questions, discussions, and practice.

Is there any homework given?

The short answer is no. At the SD we work on the students’ in-depth understanding of mathematical and scientific concepts and equip them with the methods to apply their knowledge to exam questions and real-life scenarios. We believe if a student fully understands, then school homework can be sufficient. On the other hand, at the SD, we provide students with external links to commonly used websites that host a list of worksheets and exam papers that they may use at any time for free.

Is practical work carried out at the SD?

The SD does not have school practicals, due to limitations of online tutoring, however, we go over them in lessons and exam practice to ensure full understanding of the concepts behind them and how to apply them.

Will students’ progress be tracked?

Progress is tracked for students who attend one-to-one lessons at least once per week. They will receive a progress report every 3 months outlining their performance, any weaknesses, and ways to improve.

Will there be exam practice?

Yes, this is a main component of the SD classroom and is incorporated in the lessons.

Do I need to have anything handy for the virtual classroom?

Students will need to be equipped with a notebook to work in and take notes, which could be a simple word document or a physical notebook. They will need a scientific calculator, a pen/pencil, and ruler, and sometimes a compass/protractor.

What if i want to book for more than one student?
